The following is a picture of an emo girl. An emo girl who apparently likes Macs, and has some problems. Warning: It's squicky, and if you are weak of stomach, don't look. I think she's taking the love for the Mac a bit far. But, it could prompt some plotbunnies somehow, so I thought I'd post it, since I thought of this comm when I first saw it.

If i've broken some sort of rule here, just tell me and I'll delete.

Her arm looks like she stuck it on a belt sander. D: I really hope there isn't some guy out there with the Windows logo carved on him!

But yes, the girl needs some help. As a general rule, all the cutters I know who do designs and then show off how much they cut are making more "plz look at me!" than seriously, seriously disturbed. The disturbed ones always kept it a secret and told their close friends after they had already stopped.
... Sorry. Pet issue.

Just goes to show that just because a person cuts herself doesn't mean she does it just for the pain. :) I know someone who scratched designs into herself when she was bored. They looked really awesome, all these vines and leaves on her arms and legs.
I mean, dude, look at people who get tattoos. I've heard tattoos hurt. Do they hurt more than cuts? She's dressed like a punk goth, and cutting is like a trend for them. Who knows, maybe most of the scars are from sex or something. Anyway, I just see the carved logo as a way of saying, "I love Apple so much!!!"
I wouldn't worry about her, she obviously has people who know what she's doing.

This girl, though...meh.

I mean, not in a way like, omg I want to go cut a PC/Mac logo in my leg kind of way, but a, woah she thought of a Mac first and not a broken heart kind of way.

I dont condone it at all. Anytime you intentionally harm yourself, you are being stupid. BUT... Is it REALLY any more "emo" than an angsty semi-Goth? Is it any more pathetic than all the losers claiming ocd and add, using it as an excuse to slack. Or how bout the people with their so called "depression" who think that just cause they are having a bad day, it gives them the right to be a bitch? Is it any more STUPID than going to a BDSM club and allowing someone to beat on you for an hour? Or sitting on a leash saying "yes mistress"?
We all do stupid things. Hopefully, she will grow out of it, sooner rather than later.
btw. Yeah, I like her hair color too. :-)

so what?
Seriously, I don't get it. Why does it bother you that someone used the Apple logo as a template for scaring, which, by the way, is one of the many types of body mod out there.April 20 2007, 16:06:05 UTC 5 years ago
Re: so what?
Because when one also looks at her forearm, it makes a pretty good case against the idea that she cuts for artistic purposes. :/April 20 2007, 15:44:00 UTC 5 years ago
I have never been a cutter, but pain can be really cathartic and enjoyable (I am not talking about sexually but yes that too.)
Is she really endangering herself? - I think not.
Is "this a call for help" or is she "a loser"? - maybe, maybe not She might see it as a form of commitment or a cleansing exercise or to get the attention of her peers. I knew people in high school who used to brand themselves with cigarette lighters. Smart or not it doesn't really do any real damage, you get a scar (scars are hot) and you get whatever else you want out of it.
For most people there is not enough incentive to do such a thing, but that does not make doing it pathetic. sure lots of people do silly things for poor reasons but compare cutting to smoking and I'll tell you all hands down which is stupider, more pathetic, more annoying and harmful (to both yourself and others) and yet cutting "very disturbed, how pathetic"/ smoking "they look kinda hot, I bet they're great at sucking".
\end rant

Well...
Done properly, scarring is a perfectly acceptable form of body mod/art. It can be done safely and it doesn't always indicate emotional problems. It's not for everyone, of course, but neither are tattoos or piercings. That said, this picture indicates one of two things. Either this girl really is emotionally disturbed on some level, or she's just fucking stupid. Cause, that does not look like it was done safely. But at the worst, it looks as bad as idiot kids that try to give themselves tattoos. Actually, self-applied tattoos could probably be more dangerous if you used the wrong kind of ink.

Back in the '90s, I was actually shagging a dude for a few months who was a cutter and did, in fact, give himself 95 cuts on his forearm for, and I feel a little sad for even quoting this, "for the release of Windows 95".
He's fine. She'll be fine too. :)

One theory for the reason Apple has the name and the logo it does is because it's a homage to Alan Turning- one of the fathers of modern computing. He was one of the world's greatest mathematicians and he practiced homosexual activity. Because this happened in the early 20th century, it was considered a crime and a mental illness. He was given the choice between going to jail or having hormone therapy. He chose the latter, and ended up with such bad depression he committed suicide by taking a bite out of an apple dipped in cyanide.
So the story behind the Apple logo, if it is actually based on Turning's story, is one of immense pain and suffering for something a man with a brilliant mind couldn't control.
That's one idea anyway...
