Apple Cancels “Get a Mac” Ads
The campaign of a decade is no more. The now famous “Get a Mac” ads have been replaced with a page dedicated to the sentiment “Why you’ll love a Mac” on Apple’s website. The page redirect was noticed by MacRumors and appears to confirm suspicions — which began after Justin Long suggested that Apple was moving on — that Apple would no longer be producing any more of the Mac vs. PC personified spots.
The long-running campaign certainly served to create memorable moments in advertising history, but more recent ads teetered on mediocrity and lacked the same comedic flair as earlier renditions. Still, the ads will no doubt be missed by Apple fans everywhere, though we can assume that Apple will come out with something to replace them in the near future.
For now you can reminiscence with these 10 best “Get a Mac” ads or check out these iPad spots.
Say Goodbye to the "I'm a Mac/I'm a PC" Ads!I'm crushed. Are you crushed?Let's all take a moment to mourn the loss of Apple's snotty "I'm a Mac/I'm a PC" commercials. Justin Long, the Mac half of the commercials, has said that he's pretty sure there won't be anymore of the ads.
In an interview with AV Club, Long was asked, "What's the status of those Apple commercials?"
"You know, I think they might be done. In fact, I heard from John, I think they’re going to move on. I can’t say definitively, which is sad, because not only am I going to miss doing them, but also working with John. I’ve become very close with him, and he’s one of my dearest, greatest friends. It was so much fun to go do that job, because there’s not a lot to it for me. A lot of it is just keeping myself entertained between takes, and there’s no one I’d rather do it with than John."There's been no official word on whether or not Apple is axing the spots. They could just be getting rid of the actors and going for some new talent. Any suggestions?
